The Sound that Grounds…Is the Ground that Sounds

Read the above statement a few times and feel into what it is saying.

What if the sound of your own voice can ground you in your body when you speak? Whether it's to yourself, to others, or any ol’ time!

A student of mine was auditioning for a play and was practicing her monologue in front of me. The more she spoke the more ungrounded and overcharged she became. I could feel her struggling so I suggested that she place a hand on her chest to feel her voice vibrating in her hand and her chest as she spoke. This changed everything as the sound of her voice began to ground and connect her to her whole body.

Try this - place your hand on your chest and say something out loud. You can read these words.

Can you feel your voice in your body? In your chest, your feet?

Where do you feel your voice, not just hear your voice but feel it? Does it bring you more deeply into your body, and into the moment?

Give it a try this week: when you’re speaking to someone, focus on how your voice connects not only with the other person but also with your own body.

If you're getting ready to speak or sing in front of an audience, cultivating this awareness is an essential step before you take the stage.

And by the way the student had a great audition.
