Carving Space & Shedding Skins
The thing about singing, and I mean the kind that is beautiful and free, is that is possesses the power to carve out vast spaces within us. These spaces are not empty, but become filled with effortless resonance and energy.
The trick is that after that space is created that we allow a new energy to fill that space that was carved out by the voice.
Water will fill any available space and will rush in if not dammed up and locked out.
It takes quite a lot for us to stop the water from flowing into the available space that we’ve created.
My students say, “I had so much resonance and then it vanished, gone!”
And I don’t mean the kind of space that you get from sitting in a cave, but the kind of space that is with you all the time even when you’re busy doing what you do in your life.
Really free singing can be the way-shower for a whole new way of being in the world because the resonant voice is the tangible evidence of this space.
It is free available disk space that has been separated from the narrative, the story, the pain and history.
It exists in the present moment in the form of vibration and resonance.
The sound of the voice creates the space, and, the space allows for more of the resonance in the voice.
But that’s 1/2 of the equation, once the space has been created through the singing voice, the other half is that we allow the body to be reconditioned into a whole new vessel that can allow more energy to move within us.
And this is where it’s hard and I mean it can be really hard.
The falling away of the old skin to make space for the new one can be a challenge to say the least.
It’s disorienting it’s painful and nobody really talks about it. We say, just let go, and, get over it, like we know how to do that with a snap of the finger.
So there’s that.
It takes just one free note to prove that this resonant space exists within us.
You did it once, but if you really want this to happen on a consistent basis, you got to allow this free flowing energy and sorry to say it but, let go.
